Simulation and optimization of the extrusion process
Description
The manufacturing process of polymer extrusion has a key role in industrial applications (e.g. textile fibers, wire coating, tubing). In order to improve and optimize the overall process, the use of reliable and accurate numerical simulations turns out to be crucial. In particular, numerical models able to accurately predict vitrification phenomena, that represent one of the major production obstacles in the polymer extrusion process, are nowadays mandatory.
Goals
- Simulate velocity, pressure and temperature fields
- Identify cause of vitrification
- Describe how the geometric features influence the pressure and temperature fields
